My club is in the Hudson River about 75 miles north of the Big Apple. We
have tidal currents that approach 1 1/2 - 2 knots at times from either
direction, with wind it can be very tricky getting into your slip. When the
current is running out of your slip, going in gently and controlled is easy.
With the current behind and the wind on the beam, it is an adventure. I
always advise new members to go out into our mooring field and try pulling
and backing to the mooring balls from all angles and wind directions to get
the "feel" of their boat. A miss only bumps a ball, no slamming into docks
or pilings...............
