The 35-1 I race on has no stuffing box. The top of the tube has a plastic washer sitting on it with a stainless steel collar locked to the shaft just above it to keep the rudder from dropping out of the boat. Just above that is the steering quadrant.

The 35-2 is the same hull with some modifications but sits a couple of inches lower in the water so perhaps may have a stuffing box? Ken H.
