Edd, The Narragansett is an interesting place. Very dated, but very well kept, it's a time warp. They have a neat little bar and it's a short walk to The Oar. I think it's charming. (note; I have not stayed there in five years or so)
On the ODD chance there is a serious heat wave going on then the only place to stay is Champlins. Very "motelish" but all the rooms have aircon. That is NOT the norm on Block Island as most nights are cool and comfortable even in mid August. I would not waste all that time and expense riding the ferry's back and forth. September is, in my opinion, the best time of the year to be on the island. Rob
