My top C&C list would have to go something like this
C&C 39-the most beautiful boat I've ever sailed on and sails great too.
C&C 35 MK1- The boat that started it all...
C&C 30 MK1- Great looks, sails like it is much bigger, brought home a ton of silver for us! C&C 38 MKII-Personal prejudice, but I fell in love with the looks and sailing ability. Has the best balance of any boat I've ever sailed. Baltic 42 (C&C design)- never sailed on one but I love the lines and the layout. Probably the only boat that would make me consider selling mine.
C&C 34+ (and 36XL)
C&C LF38-This design was way ahead of it's time...

Of course, I'd take any of the C&C designs over anything else the same size.

I strongly ratify the vote for the 35-1. I sailed a 35-1 for 12 years out of Branford, CT and made cruises out to Nantucket and the other Islands every summer. At least 1/2 of the time on the water I was single handed and at others with one crew member, my wife a non-sailor. I found the 35 to be strong, durable, fast, and very easy to sail, almost like a dingy. Many times in the benign summer conditions of LI sound I flew the spinnaker with the just the help of my auto-pilot. With crew we carried the 3/4 oz into the low 20 knot range with broaching as the wind piped up to 25. She simply carried sail well and was fast. One time from Menemsha to Nantucket my wife and I sailed through a gale with winds at a full 40+ knots for the last 15 miles with a #1 roller reefed down to a #3 with green water up to the cabin sides, no main. Needless to say we got into this fix due to my poor planning, but she carried us through to a screaming sail right up to the mooring in the harbor for a total time port to port of a little over 4 hours. I have raced on board a C&C 29-1, Tartan 10, Cal 39, Erickson 37 and 39, Peterson 34, Shields, Tartan 34-1, a maxi-60, F&C 44, and now a Rob Ball designed Baltic 39, 1978. The Baltic exceeds the 35-1 and every other boat except the Maxi (in a class clearly above the others) for sailing qualities and ease of handling. We just returned from another trip to Nantucket and had 30 knot winds on the nose in Nantucket Sound and the Baltic moved through the steep short period waves with grace and almost no pounding. I am sure J's are great fast boats, but I can't see that they would be as secure and solid in nasty conditions up wind and probably no faster. C&C and Rob Ball in particular has designed great boats.

I don't think you're self-serving at all. It's good to have an objective observer to rely on. Question: Why the 2 on 40-2? Was there a previous 40? Or was the Crusader the previous 40?

The reason - IMHO - a lot of the old ones get picked is they stood out more. In the early 70s a C&C looked like a race horse and all the other boats looked like mules or donkeys. The newer you get the less they stand out. I am sure the 99 and 115 are very fine boats, but it isn't like "WOW, I have NEVER seen anything like that before". I DID think that the first time I saw a C&C 40. Do we want to let the SR series in on this? They were pretty much WAY ahead of the curve on sportboats.

The 35 mark 1, just because she was and is such a beauty and still had a good layout and sailed really well. The 27 Mk 1 but then I'm prejudiced, having spent many many happy hours cruising with my old dad on his. I'd put the 39 on there, even though she had more of a racing layout; what a joy to sail and look at that boat!
The 30 mk1, because of its longevity...and similarity to the 27
I think the 35 Mk 3 should be on there, too, not that I have any experience with the boat, beyond looking at them during the search that resulted in acquiring Peregrine.

What I personally would find interesting is what this esteemed group thinks are the top ten C&Cs of all time? The reason for your choice would also be of interest.

From Stu's list

I admit it, my choice of the venerable C&C 39 was based primarily on
appearances. While the old C&C 33 sold in more numbers and the 35 is considered
a classic, there is no denying it: The C&C 39 is one of the prettiest
fiberglass boats ever built. Although the 39 was in production for only three years, 1972 to 1974, and less than 50 boats were produced, the 39 has a loyal
following and has not only retained its value, it has also retained a
lofty perch among the cult of connoisseurs of eary '70s boats.
Designed by Cuthbertson and Cassian, the original manufacturer's brochure
brilliantly proclaimed, "The C&C 39 was designed to win races by going
fast!". Though there is no doubt that the 39 was build with the IOR rule in
mind, she was not a rule-spawned hydrid. Windquest, hull No. 2, took two
firsts, one second and two thirds for first overall in the 1972 SORC, and later that year took third in class in the Newport-Bermuda Race and was the first
boat to finish under 40 feet. However, winning races was just a bonus for
owning a boat that courts compliments at every encounter

A couple of very nice C&C designs built by others.
