Hi Martin & Jim,

Ah yes. Lack of phone coverage is one of best features, cruising the west coast of V.I.

However, in an emergency you can find connection to the TELUS network to the east of Kains Island, the lighthouse of Quatsino Sound (entrance to Winter Habour).
Note: there is no service in the community of Winter Habour!
Population, 37. Where you will find moss & lichen on the top of the handrails of the wharfs... even those with southern exposure!
It kinda rains, a lot.

        Cheers, Russ

When we took Calypso around in 2011 there was no cell coverage North of Hot Springs Cove (near Tofino) on the West coast and North of Port Hardy on the East coast. We did not go closer than a few miles to Winter Harbor so there might be some coverage there, and maybe some of the small fishing resorts will have wi-fi.

Calypso’s co-owner and some of the crew that were new to sailing in remote areas or offshore went into cell phone/internet withdrawal. I really enjoyed the isolation from most modern day distractions (save GPS). When sailing into Nootka Sound without another boat in sight I could almost hear an echo of Capt. Cook as he moored the HMS Resolution in Ship Cove (now known as Resolution Cove). If you have the time, anchor in Bligh Cove (a ways back into the sound). The entrance is a little tight, but if you are the only boat in there it will seem as if it is 1779 again.

We're heading out at the beginning of July, going around counterclockwise about 1 1/2 times if everything works out. Anyone wanting to follow our adventures can check out our blog...<http://paradigmchafe.blogspot.ca>paradigmchafe.blogspot.ca I'm going to try and keep it as current as possible, but there's probably going to be some times when I just can't get to an internet connection. I'm not sure we can survive without the internet. Anyone else going around or going to be in those parts when we're passing through? Please throw us bacon.
