There is a whole range of toughbooks from "business level" up to "Fully Rugged". That's why I mentioned the ones removed from police vehicles. New, these things are incredibly expensive, like $4000-$6000 depending on options. You can often find them for 10-20% of that on Ebay. I'd recommend upgrading to an SSD drive for any boat laptop. After all, who backs up their boat laptop? That means that you can usually find deals on Ebay and elsewhere for 3 year old toughbooks that came off of a lease at very reasonable prices. They have many advantages over other laptops and notebooks. They are water resistant/proof so they can be used on deck, even in the rain, and the displays are truly daylight viewable. These things are very popular with construction companies and arctic expeditions, too. One of the specs is that they can be dropped from 6 feet onto concrete WHILE RUNNING. If you spill coffee on the keyboard, just rinse it off with water! :-) Bill Bina
