I have 2 sailboats insured thru State Farm. I lost the mast on Cal 20 and while I was insured for only $3500 they paid $3200 less $250 deductible. My agent then suggested that maybe I'd like to raise my coverage.
Speaking of insurance, State Farm will not insure my boat in Mexico. I am planning to sail to the Sea of Cortez next winter and would like any advise you may have about getting good insurance coverage. I've been very happy with them and they give a discount on premiums each year if there have been no claims. Of course, the premiums will probably increase this year due to the damage by Sandy. They told me they could not quote a policy because the underwriter will not insure a boat of more than 34 feet for coastal use. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? It makes absolutely no sense to me and I am not sure if it is worth pursuing in case something was lost in translation.
