The reason I went with the original post was because a carbon post would have 
necessitated a larger diameter hole in the hull which I didn't want to get 
into. It was tempting to get a lighter rudder, but old post was in good shape 
so it was much simpler to use it.

WE will be picking up our replacement which in our case was built around the 
original SS post and cost about what Tartan or South Shore would have charged, 
but appears to offer superior build and hydrodynamics.
