I'm in the middle of refinishing my cabin sole.
1 You're a lucky guy
2 It is veneer.  Do NOT use a belt sander.  I'd strip it with something
like CitriStrip.  Its not toxic or smelly.  If necessary, use a random
sander, or just hand sand it.
3 If there are discolored sections use Oxalic acid to bleach it.  You only
need a quart of HOT water.  The instructions may be to mix a gallon.  Don't
waste your money.
4 I don't think the Minwax products are for outdoor use.
