Yea, I guess they can't really hit you too hard as they require it and they
probably have it down to a science from having to do it to every sailboat every
year.

Yard charges to pull masts vary a lot. I paid $400 to R&R the mast on my 35,
$800 10 miles away to do the same on my 28!

I'd recommend pulling the mast as well. Gives you the opportunity to check
everything. My yard requires the mast be taken down every year. At this point
I don't mind as I have more work to do on the mast. I think the charge me about
$400 for taking the mast down and putting it back up...I'd have to check to be
sure though, But they do it as part of haul out. DannyLolita1973 Viking

I replaced my mast step on my old 1970 30MKI. I don't think you can do
it without pulling the stick. If memory serves me, it's not a hard job
but it's labor intensive and you are going to have to get your arm down there
pretty deep and far back to get the old wood out and re- glass the new steps
in. If you don't have one, I would suggest a stainless plate between the wood
block the mast sits on and the glassed in steps.
Good excuse to check the rigging, lights, etc up there. Rob Gallagher'88 C&C

Howdy Listers,
I am new to the list and the new owner of a 1975 30 Mk 1. Overall she
is in decent shape with a fwc A4 that runs well. Aside from needing
major cleaning/polishing and lots of minor fixit stuff, she has
one big ugly problem, the mast step is sagging and needs to be rebuilt.
I have read up on the repair at cncphotoalbum and it looks doable for a
winter project.
I wonder, has anyone tried this repair without removing the mast
completely? Perhaps jacking the mast up a few inches with some kind of
rig from inside the cabin or from on deck? Any idea what the mast with
rigging would weigh?
It would save me the hassle of removing the mast and rigging, not to mention
the crane fee. She is on the hard now.
Cheers,
