All ball valves. Have to free up the cockpit drain valves. The surveyor says I'll get another couple of seasons on the cutless bearing and it has a MaxProp that I like a lot! I looked at the strut and discussed it during the survey. The surveyor (Dwight Escalera of Executive Marine who is a friend and very knowledgeable) said everything was fine there. I'll monitor it during the summer, though. On Mon, Dec 3, 2012 at 1:54 PM, Dennis C. <capt...@yahoo.com> wrote: Congratulations! Sounds like the boat is on the hard so focus on the underbody. If they're not ball valves, replace the thruhull valves with ball valves. Replace the cutless bearing. Maybe rebed the strut. Make sure you like the prop. Everything else you can do after launch. Glanced at some Mk IIIs--C&C really seems to have got it right with each of the 35s, didn't they? About the same time a friend found me a 40 to look at. Way out of my range, but a lovely boat. A couple of months later, the boat's owner and I have come to an agreement, and next week she's mine! Hull number 143, built in 1981, most recently called Thunder, (based in East Greenwich, RI) and before that Reverie, she'll be coming to her new home in Newport. Cruising plans include getting to Maine this summer. I've been lurking on the list and once in a while chiming in when I thought I had something useful to add, but I've been impressed with the scope and depth of knowledge here. So what should I be looking at attending to before launching in April? I know to pull the tie straps and check they're bedded well and for crevice corrosion, and there are couple of survey items to attend to, but nothing serious. What else? Suggestions for projects or improvements?
