I'll second Mike's opinion on the ST40 instruments. I replaced the Datamarine depth and speed instruments on my boat with the ST40 Bidata display and transducers 10 years ago. No regrets. It quit working once. Somehow it had decided to be a repeater only, but I got the manual out and reprogrammed it. I had been testing a second (ST30) unit on the same ST buss, and I suspect that may have had something to do with it. No problems at all since or otherwise. As for the existing transducer, just try it with the new unit. It will either work or it won't. They are all ceramic transducers, but they have different fundamental frequencies. I can't see how it could cause any damage. Most are manufactured by Airmar and may be rebranded when packaged with the display units. How about adding a couple hundred to purchase budget and buying a modern depth display and mounting in cockpit. Great variety of budget ones here http://www.defender.com/category.jsp?path=-1|344|2028690 <http://www.defender.com/category.jsp?path=-1|344|2028690&id=2028818> &id=2028818 I love the Raymarine ST40 in this category. Lort of instrument for the price BTW - this weekend we were sailing in a vet deep water harbour (Halifax) rounding an island (Georges) and I happened to glance at depth display and saw 11 feet under keel. That was not good. HAd the display been inside cabin it would not have been noticed and we would have grounded very hard Mike _____ From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of wster1...@aol.com Sent: Monday, October 08, 2012 8:25 PM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Subject: Stus-List 26 Instruments Hi- I am buying a C&C 26 from around 1977. The boat has a Datamarine LX 360 and S100 K II. And a Simpson Echo 1. I bought the manual but can't find much on the original instruments. Top priority is getting a working depth finder. The Echo is mounted inside the cabin which I can't understand you can't see it from the cockpit. Any help would be appreciated. The transducer for the Echo looks in good shape it is made from bronze. Is it usable with something like a newer Moor depth finder. Moor looks like they would fit in the datamarine holes. Thanks Bill Sterling
