This prompted me to tell my story: About 8 or 9 years ago, I had a chance to
sail on a C&C 38 skippered by a real hot shot "professional sailor" (being a
sailmaker was his disguise) who genuinely taught me a lot about the value of
really fine trim adjustments on the car. " Fwd 2cms" "back 1" was the order of
the day, so I took note and applied this to my instructions but in my case,
used the stops on the original Merriman track on my 35-2 as guides, thinking
how precise I was....

Well then, I decided to buy the Garhauer system and install it when I was
re-doing my deck. According to the deal made with Guido, I sent the old tracks
to Garhauer marked port and starboard and a few weeks later got my package with
the existing tracks wrapped up with their respective replacements and lo and
behold, all deck mounting holes matched as expected.

So when I began installing, I inadvertently switched them and immediately
noticed the deck holes didn't match, so grabbed the other and it did. But then,
I looked more closely at the two, both the original Merrimans as well as the
new Garhauers and noticed something else. NONE of the pin stop locations
matched the other side.

So, when I issued super precise trimming instructions, little did I know that
they were for naught, as they never matched, in some cases up to 2 cms.

So, it appears that at C&C in Niagara on the Lake, they simply had high school
kids on the drill presses doing what they felt like....

There is no epilogue yet, as I have not tested these under sailing conditions,
but they look fantastic and will be marked with that distance tape, so I have a
symmetrical indicator....
