It seemed it was the evening when things went real soggy. We had some nice warm, sunny, dry days. I'd get the boat all dried out and then the sun goes down, temp drops and humidity spiked in the boat. DannyViking 33south coast, MA

In hot, muggy South Florida, I have three passive vents (Forward hatch, head and main cabin) and two cowl vents on the stern. I have no mold or stuffy smell in the interior of the boat. Usually, I sail two or three times a week, so that helps keep the air flowing. I also have three fans in the cabin that run continuously during hot weather, as well as a computer fan that pumps air into the diesel compartment to ensure it doesn’t become oxygen-starved in the heat. Many newer boats have them in their opening ports. I skipped the opening ports and installed solar fans in through the cabin top. They work great! Independent of the battery. No mold. No stuffy boat smell. They don't cool the boat, cause the outside temp gets to ninety, and the cabin gets to 110 degrees cause of the added solar load, unless I rig my Ronstan inflatable awning. Our cabin got so humid that the bedding was damp and kind of gross to sleep in. We tried those damprid things and the bag filled but it was still very damp. We also used one of those tubs with the white stuff in it and it didn't seem to do anything. Danny Viking 33 South Coast, MA My 2005 Nicro is still working fine, (in the head) of course only in the day and 6 months a year. As another mentioned, it is getting noisy, but at least the impeller doesn’t fall off anymore for some reason. I say install the muffin fans. Just do it. These have made a dramatic difference. It amazing on how moving such little air eliminates smell and mold. They are only 80mm, right in the Dorade Box and use so little juice I don’t even think about it. I removed the Tuba horns and made a drink holder out of the hole. I don’t remember pulling the wires through the ceiling liner, so it can’t have been that big of a problem. I have a switch for them on my regular panel. Bill Coleman C&C 39 To: Cn Clist Subject: Stus-List Day/night Solar vents - I'm fed up!!! There are also the DIY projects on installing a muffin fan in the companionway hatch boards, something I'm not really wanting to do. Any listers want to chime in on this? Dennis C.
