Just something to consider.

If you are a racer and choose to remove bottom paint with a sander, try to find
or rent a powered (air or electric) long board sander such as a Hutchins or
Dynabrade.  Failing that, try to get a large 7 inch disc sander.

The reason?  It's difficult to hold a smaller disc or circular sander steady
and flat against the hull.  It will tend to rock or tilt ever so slightly.  As
it tilts it will create small depressions in the bottom.  Not significant for a
non-racer or cruiser, but unwelcome for a racing bottom.  Picky, picky, picky!
