Hi Ed!

I have sailed out of Mystic Harbor for the last 5 years. I am now sailing with
my partner on a CNC 37 out of Little Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario. What a
wonderful boat.
Anyway, there are two bridges on your way into Mystic. They both monitor
channel 13. The first is the Railroad bridge. On weekends or other busy days
they will often stay open except for fairly frequent closures for trains. I
usually call ahead about 5-10 minutes, tell them my location and ask when the
next opening will be. Usually the wait is minimal but if there are one or more
trains coming it can be up to 20 minutes, occasionally more.
The second is the Mystic Highway Bridge and it does open at 40 minutes after
the hour with the last scheduled opening at 7:40, I think. After that you can
call for an opening. There is a dock to starboard just before the bridge that
you can hold on to or flip a line around a piling, but you can't tie up.
Sometimes the "dock police" come along and make a ruckus. Or you can just
circle or you can get lucky and time it perfectly.
I just discovered the CNC forum a few weeks ago. We are thinking about
attending the gathering but hate to miss a good weekend of sailing.
I hope we have the opportunity to meet you and more CNC owners soon.
