The boats on the Main Duck course are bunched up this morning in a parade since they have to round a mark at Ford Shoal (Oswego) Once past Oswego, boats can follow the US shore or go offshore between Oswego and Niagara.
Boats on the shorter Scotch Bonnet course are scattered all over the lake since they have multiple options after rounding Scotch Bonnet (Brighton)....follow the rhumb line, stay on the north shore & across the lake to round Niagara, go south and follow the US shore or sail down the middle of the lake. This race is typically won or lost overnight as less experienced / serious crews let the boat slow down over night. The west bound leg back down the lake will likely spread the fleet out depending on their route (inshore / offshore) and the wind "holes" that develop on the lake. Best regards, Bob Hickson, P. I note that the C&Cs are bunched up in the middle of the pack, do you expect that there will be some separation over night? Richard 1987 33-II Richard N. There are 140 boats racing on two courses. Main Duck Course is 300 nm.... Port Credit to Kingston and returning along the US shore to Niagara and Port Credit. Scotch Bonnet Course is 160 nm...Port Credit to Brighton to Niagara and back to Port Credit. Lots of C&C?s running the race. Each boat has a tracker and you can follow the race on line in real time at http://www.lo300.org/ Click on the ?Yellow Brick? logo to access the tracking. I ran this race (short course) 7 times in a Viking 28. Bought a C&C 29-2 this spring and I am planning to run the race again next year (too much to do to have the boat ready for this year) Best regards, Bob Hickson, P. Overnight the wind usually drops, so I wouldn't expect to see much separation until they start heading back west. (or until the engines get turned on, for lack of wind ).
