Russ, Thanks for the info. Which Tremclad (aka Rust-Oleum) product did you use? The Tremclad/Rust-Oleum web site has several spray options that might be similar.
A while back I read that someone used BBQ paint successfully. I suspect the Tremclad is a similar formulation good on aluminum and tolerant of temperature changes. Isl. it was clear that summer could be south of Campbell River/Tofino and fall like weather north of that. I have rarely seen so much fog and rain in July and August (Fogust?). -----Original Message----- From: cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of Russ & Melody Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 5:56 PM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Subject: Re: Stus-List Spar Re-finish: Powder Coating vs Anodizing + toe rail Hi Martin, I did my port side toe rail with Tremclad spray paint, flat black. The underside had many corrosion spots & sorta cracks (linear corrosion). The corrosion got hogged out with a round burr on a pencil grinder and washed with a weak acid to get rid of salt deposits, then rinsed. The damage was filled with Devcon metal repair (it's black too). Sand/fair repair area when cured then lightly sand entire rail with fine grit paper, 220+. Give it a turps wash, dry & paint. The first coat was just a light fog. I think I stopped maybe at the seventh coat. It looks good at 6 years. The toe rail is the same age as yours.
