At the CUUG meeting tonight, I mentioned a project to produce a computer that is open and secure all the way down to the silicon:
Talos Secure Workstation <https://www.crowdsupply.com/raptor-computing-systems/talos-secure-workstation> They explain <https://www.crowdsupply.com/raptor-computing-systems/talos-secure-workstation/updates/a-word-on-lockdown> the concept of a blob-free computer as follows: > Hardware that has source code available for every compiled firmware, > system, or other binary required to make the system functional, from > initial power application to a full operating environment. > They key to this is the IBM POWER8 processor and architecture, which they say <https://www.raptorengineering.com/TALOS/prerelease.php> is "the only open, owner-controllable architecture that is competitive in performance." It's a very interesting project and well worth reading about.
