Hey Gustin tanks for the response. After I sent the first email I dug a
bit deeper & found similar instructions. Problem is I am not sure I
have an install disk. I am sure I do but not 100% sure where it is.
I think I have a xubuntu usb disk somewhere. Would there be any tools
on there that would help?

What has happened is that you removed the Linux partition which held the
information that grub uses to boot the currently installed operating
systems. Windows has a bootloader that does not recognize other
operating systems, so when you install Linux, Grub (which is aware of
many different operating systems) typically replaces whatever bootloader
is installed (like the Highlander, there can be only one).
If this PC came with a recovery disk and not an actual Windows disk, you
may need to contact the manufacturer, though XP is long out of support
from even Microsoft, so you may need to borrow an XP CD from someone. I
would avoid downloading one from the Internet since they typically have
malware infections.

doing a renovation the power got turned off & the machine shut down.
When it boots up now it shows a grub Rescue prompt & when I do an ls

I have been looking online & all I have found so far is how to get
it back into Ubuntu. But as Ubuntu doesn't exist anymore this
doesn't help me. I haven't applied any commands as I don't want to
mess it up.
Right now my goal is to recover the Windows XP Partition which
houses my Quicken software. I do have the Quicken files on a
DropBox share & hopefully they were synched at the time, but I won't
know unless I get back in there.
Any ideas?
