We have a Shaw phone though I almost always exclusively use my cell phone. I have both Shaw and Telus for Internet. If you are lucky enough to be able to get Telus fiber there is nothing that can touch that in terms of performance (I get have a 100/20 megabit package, though closer to 90/30 real world) at the under $100 price point. If you care about sending data, Shaw has no package that even comes close at any price point. Otherwise Shaw is really the only choice from a performance perspective.
Telus is more militant about blocking inbound ports whereas Shaw is more lenient (port 80 and 443 for example) in this regard. Telus also enforces their data caps to the megabyte. If you exceed those caps they will bill you for the overages. Again Shaw is a little more lenient in this regard. All of the consumer ISPs here have poor edge connectivity to the rest of the Internet and no IPv6 support. Recently (in the past few months) both Telus and Shaw started peering with Google, which means that GMail and Youtube (not to mention all the sites that use google analytics) performance dramatically improved. Nucleus uses Shaw for their backhaul so I imagine this is also true for them. I loved dealing with Teksaavy though there product was painfully slow here (YMMV). Every time I look at the alternatives I come to the realization that we are lacking in real competition which means that the price performance ratio for these services is going to suck. In the short term you can get deals for retention (when you call and threaten to leave) and for switching. All of these deals are short term and eventually dry up (this is where I am right now). One ISP I have not tried is http://www.connections.ca/. Some of the guys in the OpenBSD crowd have had nice things to say about them.
