Greetings CLUG,

This message is intended for CLUG members and is in no way shape or form
associated to the executive CLUG staff (unless of course they would like it
to be); basically - this is not a CLUG sponsored , advertised or approved
event (that's my disclaimer and I'm sticking to it).

*Summary* :

Day trip white water rafting on the Highwood River (1 hour drive from
Calgary), hosted by close friends of mine Dave, Julie and Ben (owners and
operators of Canadian Rafting Adventures/Wakpa Wilderness Adventures -
http://wakpa.com). This trip is being organized to host a variety of
friends and family. As a research assistant at the University of Calgary
under the faculty of Computer Science I wanted to organize a trip for
fellow researchers, supervisors, extended friends and other interested
members of the IT community.

*What's included and when : *

   - Saturday, June 21, 2014 (Rain or Shine)
    -
*Please try to RSVP by June 13, 2014 at the latest. This invitation is open
to close friends of yours and or family. Should you be a fashionably late
character who defines mysterious : show up at your own risk without prior
confirmation and maybe just maybe there will be room for you! *

   - 9 am : Coffee and Safety Orientation (All gear - splash tops, pants,
fleeces, booties, gloves and helmet provided)
   - Noonish : River side lunch (Soup, Sandwiches, etc)
   - 4 pm : BBQ Dinner (Choice of : Chicken, Elk or Veggie Burgers -
   includes additional sides)

Event runs from 9 am until 4 pm. Of course, dinner is optional should you
have other commitments.

*Common Concerns :*

   1. Is the water cold ?

   - Yes, by normal standards. Expect water temperatures to be around 3-8
degrees celsius if memory serves me correct.
   - Fleeces (NOT Wool) are provided free of charge and are to be worn
underneath your splash jackets for increased warmth on the river.

   1. Do I need to be in good shape to attend ?

   - Not at all. I spoke to Dave when I was organizing this event in
   anticipation of a few concerns expressed by potential participants ;
people of all ages, 15 - 85 have been down the river, all shapes and
sizes. Many who were unable to swim even. Safety orientation runs over a
lot of the considerations participants need to keep in mind. Alcohol,
smoking and illegal substances are strictly prohibited !

   1. What kind of people can I expect to encounter on this trip ?

   - People! I promise they bleed red and typically put their pants on one
leg at a time. I ask only that those attending, especially via any invite
of mine encompass one traditional quality : respect.

*What does it all cost :*

*Normally the cost of a full day on the river as outlined above including
all gear and the fixings is : 144.00 + GST per person.*

*Discount !* As a close friend of the owners, I am often invited free of
charge (they must really like me) and with an organized group all
participants will receive 15% off the normal price. With that being said,
I am happy to extend my privileges to those interested in coming ; so I
will contribute just as much as the next person towards the total cost.

*Example* (based on 5 people : including myself):
144.00 + 7.00 GST = $151.00
15% discount : -$22.68 = $ 128.32
$ 128.32 * 4 people = $ 513.28
finally divided by 5 people: $ 102.66 (includes taxes) per person.
(Savings of : $48.34, roughly 32%).

*Transportation :*

   - Interested in coming but don't have a means of getting there ? Please
advise at time of confirmation ! I will try to arrange pick and drop off
for all attendees that require it. This will be entirely voluntary and
dependent on availability in volunteer vehicles.

*How to pay :*

   - Show up to the river base either via your own means or a volunteer
driver and bring either cash or credit. Come with realistic expectations
! Expect to pay anywhere from 100.00 - 140.00 dollars depending on the
   number of people attending.
   - NO Money will be collected before hand. This is to safeguard both you
and myself. I do not like the added responsibility ! As mentioned above
though, please try to confirm and follow through on your confirmation to
the trip should you wish to attend.

That's all folks ! If you're interested, get in touch with me. I won't
advertise my personal email or phone number via the CLUG mailing list in
case that is not appreciated. Should acceptance come from the powers that
be, I'd be happy to provide any external details necessary to help you
confirm your attendance.

Respectfully,

Will and Kristin
