Re the dual boot problem, the fan issue is only intermittent and I will look at the exterior casing to make sure that all is in place.
I've done a backup of the files I need from all user accounts on both operating systems. I have both two current releases of Mint 16, one 64 bit and the other 32-bit with a different Gui (Cinnamon vs Mate). I'll need to make DVDs. I'll make sure I can run some kind of Windows on the old laptop and do a straight Mint system if I can't recover Windows on the Lenovo. Perhaps I'll attend the next meeting.
