Good suggestions, Mel.

I think you’re better with the philosophical aspects Linux evangelism than I,
so if you would like to address those topics, that’s great. Idea #2 is
important, and we should address that on the website in addition to talking
about it in the monthly meetings.

My strengths are better suited to a more hands-on “how-to” approach to using
Linux. Some of the topics I have considered presenting include:

- UTM roundup. Demonstrations of unified threat management distributions like
Untangle, Sophos, Zentyal, etc. Block malicious sites, shape network traffic
and more.
- How to develop a KDE application fast using “Gambas".
- How to install the open-source version of “Prey," an antitheft application
for mobile devices (Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Android, iOS).
- “i3" window manager and the “screen” command for streamlined command line
access
- How to boot multiple distributions from a single USB stick
- Lightweight window manager/desktop environment round-up (E17,
OpenBox/Fluxbox, Window Maker, LXDE, XFCE, etc.)

Members with a lot of experience and who are active on the mailing lists, like
Gustin, Shawn and Daffyd, for example, have said that there is nothing in the
meetings for them anymore. I’m hoping to change that, though I do understand
that everyone has other commitments.

Anand.
