I am actually glad that my post has sprouted such an informed discussion. Even 
i learned something new from it.Linux is a very good sound platform with or 
without the low latency kernel, or the jack daemon, and that is due to it's 
efficient multitasking system, light weight and stability. There are also a 
multitude of audio editing and authoring applications available for the 
platform. This looks like an interesting subject to explore in detail.
