Hello to the members of the Calgary Linux Users Group. It is unfortunate that the timing has not allowed me the opportunity to get to know more of you personally before now but that cannot be changed. It should not, however, become an obstacle to move ahead. My name is Ron Edwards and I have initiated communications with Mel Walters to arrange a meeting between myself and Mr. Kin Wong, your Treasurer, to alter my club standing from that of a Tier one member to that of a Tier two member as soon as possible. The reason I am telling you this is because I am submitting myself as a candidate for the Presidency of the club as soon as my membership status is upgraded. When I was an Electronics student at SAIT some years back, I was also a member of the board for a non profit society dealing with robotics as well as being the Staff Representative for the Student Chapter of the IEEE at SAIT so my experience with both non profit groups and organized societies is reasonably extensive. I have been reviewing the groups bylaws and am receiving co mmunications as a member of all the mailing lists since I became aware of the group a few weeks back.
As I am certain that I could become a positive element of the Executive for this group, I am hoping to have the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities in that regard. I have read the communications posted by Mel Walters since becoming involved with the CLUG and feel there are many positive aspects to what he has put forward. I also feel that adding what the members feel and desire to what I can offer will take the group in a positive direction for the forseeable future. It is my hope to meet more of you before the AGM in April but barring that, wish to see as many of you as can make it to that most important meeting so that we might have an opportunity to share ideas and chat before it becomes time to cast a ballot. Your participation is both needed, and desired as the group exists for you all. Lets join together to make it the best non profit users group this city has seen in awhile!
