I think commercial presentations are a good idea. Having said that, I get
about a dozen invites to similar events every month, although I suppose
without any kind of community focus. I don't ever attend because the
distro I use depends on a) official application support b) licensing c)
flexibility. This means I default to Red Hat because I can start with
Scientific Linux and migrate to Red Hat when the support safety blanket
becomes an issue for my customers. Similarly, I can prototype at no cost,
then migrate to a licensed product when I'm ready.

Sometimes Scientific Linux or Red Hat aren't options. For example OwnCloud
requires a PHP security patch that Red Hat has chosen not to merge. Zimbra
7 was supported on Red Hat 5, to the specific exclusion of
Cent/Scientific. In those cases, I use Ubuntu Server.

"The only other main player I have not heard from yet is RedHat." Poor
Shuttleworth -- always a bridesmaid, never a bride. I do agree with you --
I don't know anyone who has purchased Canonical enterprise support.

Anand.
