For the Python stuff tonight, there's a few things you can put on your laptop to make sure that you are ready to go:
Python (you should already have - it's a rare distro that doesn't) IPython (an interactive Python shell that is very friendly - ipython.org) and for later Hackathon fun, you may want to install this package: https://code.google.com/p/python-twitter/ (it will likely already be in your distro's repository)
