what was promised... Perspective is everything in situations like this.
While I understand and agree with the passive approach, if we are all so
passive that we don't speak up when crap happens, then we may as well
turn in our "human" licenses and pick up our "sheep" licenses. If we
don't speak up when we see wrong, then we are allowing others to make
our choices for us - for good or ill.
The way I see it, if I mess up, I can't fix it if someone doesn't tell
me. Or at the very least I can't acknowledge the issue and choose if it
can be ignored. Which means I'm doomed to make the same error over and
over. Therefore, I don't personally counsel anyone to bite their
tongue. Taking a diplomatic and conversational approach, yes, but never
just shutting up.
Back on topic. Creating blogs.
You can go with the hosted solution - wordpress.com, blogger.com, etc.
But you don't own your work if you put it there. (i.e. their servers,
their control - not yours). So if you choose the hosted solution, then
you can't be surprised/outraged if your words are censored by others.
The other option is to host your own server. Drupal and Wordpress are
very easy to install once you have a basic webserver up and running -
and there are enough how-to's for that on the web. But now you have
bandwidth and maintenance concerns. I'll go one step further and say
that if you struck up a conversation on this list regarding configuring
said web server, it would be one of the most "on-topic" conversations
I've seen here in quite some time... :)
Pick the method that best suits your needs/desires/skills and go with
it. Personally, if I were not already running my own web server and
blog, I'd choose the hosted approach here - after reading the terms and
conditions.
