For those that have complex deliverables (just can't jeopardize the
output because of a single step) and are caught between two or more
operating system whether it is their own choosing or is imposed, I
suggest that they also add in cross-platform as a criterion as well. In
cases where there is an application that is a must have and is only
available on one platform, I suggest they use virtualization as there
several out there that are very usable.
With regards to accounting, I have gone from proprietary to open source
and back. Reports are important to me and open source is not where it
is at for me. For others this might be different - for not for profit,
I use open source because there are few transactions, reporting
requirements are minimal, easily transferability (just in case you want
to hang up your hat) and it is free.
For managing mp3 even on Apple devices, there are lots of alternatives -
just do a search for itune alternatives. Be warn though, sometimes you
may need iTunes if there is corruption on the ipod or iphone and then
you are all good again. Thinks may have changed since I have tried this.
Regards,
Kin
