opening words

As newly acting president of CLUG I would like declare this 2011/2012 season
as year of the user.

After all, we are all users, even the most proficient contributors to Free
and Open Source Software?

Many of you know the Calgary Linux User Groups mission statement to promote
the use of Linux and GNU programs.
So what is the prognosis? Have you looked at the demographics?

Is it a difficult sell to some groups?

What is holding it back?

Linux has come such a long way and still moving. User friendly and "it just
works" is key.

A challenge:
Can you tell us of your "user experiences" (positive and negative) and what
relations they have to GNU/Linux in general?
Any worth presenting at a meeting?

Also, if you already have other ideas for presentations and talks, please
forward them to me.

To stir the pot a bit:

There is a generation of people very comfortable with technology nowadays.
Imagine an emergence of campy
designer systems for multi platforms based on Linux. Oh, and the potential
for profits that could be free of
Copy Rights. May not be easy, but possible?
