Hardware:
Intel i7 - 920
4Gb Ram
500Gb HD
500Gb USB external
D-Link WBR-2310 wireless/wired router
SHAW high-speed Internet

Software:
Kubuntu 10.10
Linux 2.6.35-24 generic
KDE 4.5.4

We have a lot of DVDs that we legally own that I have ripped to .avi and have
on the USB drive. We have a load of photos in .png and a load of music in .mp3
on the regular HD. I'd like to be able to access all this, and much more, such
as Netflix, CityTV.com, and other stuff through my wireless network to my Vizio
lcd TV. Even a USB port so friends with photos on a stick could show them
would be good.

I looked at Apple TV, but unless I read it wrong it's pretty tied to iTunes
and Apple video format. Can anyone give me information on how it works on a
Linux connection or suggest an alternative approach? Being able to stream
Netflix or TV shows from CityTV or GLOBAL-TV is a pretty critical function.

Or, am I somewhat out in left field and streaming off the Internet hasn't
really
got to a usable state in Canada yet?

TIA
