As I see it, most of the contemporary problems are a result of all the private walled gardens. A single commercial entity controls DirectX and .docx and the end user is not where their interests lay, their shareholders are. As such I have let that fight go. Once the customer is not the primary focus of a business you should enter into any relationship with your eyes open. If a game or product does not conform to my specifications, then I do not buy it. The most recent game purchase was a Windows only title, but the developer responds well to feedback from the WINE users, hence he gets my money. I also keep all of my documents and music in open formats. While I am leaning more heavily on Google these days, I keep a local copy of the important stuff (contacts and documents). > be a viable solution.
