A great business that supports the hobbiest community is HVWTech/Solarbotics. You can get their address from their website hvwtech.com. They are good for prototyping stuff like breadboards and microcontrollers.
Another firm that has reasonable stock good prices and will order most things is MRO Electronics. However, they are only open weekdays. A third option is Active Components. They are more expensive on most things, but are open saturdays.
