Hi Dick,

A few things:
* I am on Bell & they aren't that bad. Much better then when we were
on Telus. As well, I used to mange corporate contrcats with Telus &
it doesn't matter what level of service Telus just sucks all around.
* Virgin is now owned by Bell & Solo is also Bell. Solo is basically
there no/low commitment product...similar to the Rogers/Fido &
Telus/Koodo coonections.
* I have been pretty impressed with Bell actually with regards to
coverage & service. I did have a bad instance with customer service,
but I think you get that with everybody. Coverage wise, my wife, here
sister & I were recently down in Waterton & the campsite was deeps in
the woods. Wife & I (Bell) were both able to get cell service &
sis-in-law (Telus) was not. This of course flucuated a bit with
conditions, but it was pretty stable. We regularry go to Columbia
Valley in BC, have found that coverage is decent with the exception of
a few dead zones as you are before you travel up the mountains again
into Radium & places that are very out of the way, but in Radium,
Inveremere, Fairmont...all is well.
* Cost-wise everything is pretty much the same with only minor
difference between them.
* Phones on Telus & Bell tend to be locked to those networks. Rogers
is based on a SIM card so can be swappered out. There are guys out
there that will unlock your phone, but I am not sue of prices & who to
recommend.
* Whoever you go through you are pretty much looking at getting a new
phone, but most of the main guys offer the same phones anyways. If
you are avoiding contracts, you will likely be purchasing the phone
for the full price, so be prepared, especially since everybody is
trying to lock their customers in before a raft of competition start
sweeping in. B ut from the sounds of it, a simple phone should be all
you need.
