So much for that plan.

It looks like ThunderBird does not support add/update of LDAP records. So I can read the directory, but I'd need another tool to populate it...

sighs, guess I'll look at plugins before abandoning ThunderChicken for KMail. (after I test Kmail of course...)

Thanks. I don't use the Google products though, at least not at this time. I have some philosophical concerns about giving an external company knowledge of who I know. I'll need to think on this more.

Doing a little digging, I did find an LDAP schema definition for Thunderbird contacts - http://www.wains.be/pub/thunderbird.schema. And a guide to set it up (for RedHat/CentOS) - http://www.wains.be/index.php/2006/04/01/an-openldap-directory-for-thunderbird/. I just don't want to be tightly tied to Thunderbird, if possible.

I am starting to get a large stack of business cards and want to set up
a centralized listing for these. I rebuild my workstation on a regular
basis, and don't want to have to worry about backing up my contacts
info. Also, I want to be able to access my contact list if I'm using my
laptop, or away from my own computers - maybe a web interface. This
seems to call for a server, rather than a client tool.

What do you use?

I know I can set up an LDAP server, but then I'd need to worry about
schema compatibility (i.e. schema A might work with Evolution, but not
Thunderbird, etc.). What other options are there?

Shawn

I use Thunderbird + Zindus + Google Contacts.
