The SSDs that ship with netbooks are very slow. So slow that they really do impair the performance of the machine overall (journalled file systems are really penalized, when I said I was able to tune the netbook remix, one of the changes was switching to ext2, and yes it did make a difference). In fact most SSD drives that you can buy today are in word, terrible.
