I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions, ideas & offers of assitance, but I think I have abandoned this.
Unfortunately, of the suggestions & ideas I have tried, none seemed to have solved the problem or met the criteria. I can confirm that yes the scpt file is actually a compiled AppleScript & not a text file. I had real high hopes for the hex editors, but no joy. That is one thing I like about the Linux community in general, but specifially the CLUG community. There is great amount of knowledge here & there is always that willingness to share information & help someone solve a problem....beyond the simple RTFM answers.
