    What distro are you trying?

If it's ubuntu, you might want to consider trying the 9.04 Beta of
    their Netbook distribution. http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/beta
Or you can wait for the Release later this month.
Right now I'm running ubuntu 8.10 with a custom EeePC Kernel on my
    1000H.
