Hi All,

I was planning to attend the meeting tonight and talk about a cool little Linux device, but unfortunately I am feeling quite ill, so won't be able to attend.

Hopefully this will stand in place of me actually being there and if someone else wants to share this, please feel free. Also...I know one of the main guys of the company that manufacturers the device & he is willing to offer a discount to anyone who contacts me.

The device I am talking about is the Headplay Personal Cinema System from Headplay (www.headplay.com). It is a portable display system that connects to a multitude of devices & essentially emulates what you would be seeing on a 52" screen.

From their website:
"Utilizing a revolutionary ergonomic design and proprietary optical technology break-throughs, via a single LCoS display, the Personal Cinema System delivers an immersive big screen viewing experience you can get lost in for hours."

It offers connectivity to all sorts of gaming devices, media devices (i.e. DVD player, etc.) & computers. In one display they did they had a guy sitting in a chair with the device on & the TV was behind him. People were walking by & watching him playing the game but wondered how he could do it without seeing it. I actually had the change to try on of these devices out myself and they are quite cool. The image quality is phenomenal & the visor is quite comfortable.

I thought it would be a great addition to say a Mac Mini. Pull out a mouse & keyboard & put on your Headplay & voila...you have your computer. I was having coffee with my friend last night & they just recently added a WiFi adapter to it as well so it can be connected anywhere.

It works on an ARM processor & the device runs Linux. They are based in Calgary, but have an international reach. Not only do they use Linux on the device itself, but the also use Suse on their servers & management their network of Linux, Mac & Windows computers. I was hoping to have him come and present the device himself, but he had a prior commitment. They are are also available at a store called Play (Market Mall & I think one other mall), but if you want to save money (on it, please contact me off-list & I will fill you in on the details.
