Hi Pat,

I bought my wife an Asus EeePC awhile ago. She is quite happy with it
and has not asked for any 'upgrades'. Several other CLUG members have
EeePCs with various degrees of hardware/software upgrades.

Again, aimed at the EeePC, you can check here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EeePC for some tips.

It looks like just about everybody has, or is about to, release a
netbook. Acer, Toshiba, Commodore, Samsung, LG. When I go shopping for
a new laptop I just take a bootable CD/DVD with me. If the machine can
boot it's a contender - if it thrashes around because it's full of
proprietary components I move on.

Ubuntu does make hard-drive partitioning really really easy.

I haven't heard that Ubuntu is hard to install on laptops. I currently
run 'Hardy' on my Acer 5580 (18mos old). When I purchased the laptop I
purchased a 2nd HDD, removed the Vista drive and inserted the new one.
Put in the Ubuntu CD and installed. Everything just worked. I've run
'Fiesty', 'Gutsy' & 'Hardy' on ThinkPads and my Acer without any drama
at all.

If you want to do it yourself, I'd be happy to give you a CD/DVD with
Ubuntu on it. Question: The MSI Wind, and most other NetBooks, don't
have a CD/DVD drive, what do you want to use for installation media -
USB stick?

Cheers,
J.J.
