A client of mine bought a 2002 Vangard outdoor electronic LED sign from the
third party seller out East. It was used by the Ontario highway department.
It came with a null modem cable that connects to the RS-232 port but it did
not come with the needed software to upload custom messages to the sign. He
contacted me because he regards me as a computer expert but I have never
worked with a highway sign or with the NTCIP protocol before. This sign uses
custom software made by Daktronics. The third party sell claims that it did
not come with any software to program the sign. My client is trying to
contact the original owner and find out where the software is.

Daktronics says they will gladly replace the software CD for a small fee of
$1000.

He has other NTCIP software but it is for ATCO (may not be spelled
correctly). The Atco people say that the software for Atco signs will not
work with Daktronics software but the Daktronics guy says it will if we know
how to set it up.

Does anyone have experience working with Daktronics signs or the NTCIP
protocol. Is there any way to make his Atco software work with the sign? Is
there a Linux program that will communicate NTCIP?

This guy is very anxious to get the sign working and will pay for any help
that produces results.
