I did a quick lookup on the new router and have the following question: Do you need to register the MAC address of the wireless NIC on your laptop on the new router before it will allow it to connect? This model of D-Link supports MAC filtering.

The first one that comes to mind is that the new router is set to "g" mode only and the Ubuntu laptop only has a "B" interface. The other likely culprit is that you may be using a different scheme to protect your wifi network. Are you using WEP or WPA? If there is a speed boost or turbo mode on the router, you may wish to disable it. Apart from sketchy support under Linux, it is also rude as it interferes with your neighbours wireless networks and cordless phones. Did you replace any of the wireless network cards or are you using the cards that were working before? Also keep in mind that I have found very little support for the "N" specification in Linux.
