Mark, I know that you haven't even got the hardware for the ARM board
workshop that you are planning - so I know this is somewhat premature, but I
would like your input on Microcontrollers.

Are you familiar with the http://arduino.cc or the
http://www.pololu.com/products/pololu/0775/

Both of these boards use the mega168.  The Arduino can be programmed under
Linux  and has its own "Boot Code" programmed in to make life simpler for
the beginner.  The "Boot Code" code is open source and licenced under the
GPL.
