I thought I would pipe in with a few cents worth of information here. I
believe this decision is based on the feedback they received on some
site they set up to capture customer opinions. I can't remember what it
is called but I did read some of the comments.

We use Dell for our server and desktops at work and I asked our rep
about Linux being offered on systems in Canada. You can already get
Linux on servers but when it comes to desktops and laptops no dice.

He went on to say that you actually CAN get Linux or no-OS on systems.
You can't do it off the website, but you can do it through a
rep...essentially for more enterprise level stuff. This makes sense
because often times you will have a company who has a licensing plan in
place and only needs the boxes. They can order an image already burnt
on the systems or they can order the bare bones boxes.

He said that they set up employee purchase plans and can offer good
discos as well. He invited me to send him in the specs of what I was
looking for and he can see what he can comes up with.

I did question him about when we would see what we see in the states in
Canada and he said not for awhile yet...probably a year. He indicated
it would most likely be in the home market first then probably into
other areas.

I agree with what some people said.... this is new for them...give them
the benefit of the doubt and lets see what they can do with it. Like
anything new, it takes time to work the bugs out.
