This time of year some people take a moment to pause and reflect on the many
gifts they are
thankful for. Yes, Christmas time has become commercialized and seems to be all
about the
exchanging of gifts. I am not going to start discussing faith here but I do
want each of you to
consider something at this time of the year especially. Please give thanks to
the many people that
work tirelessly to provide the software that you know and love. I am talking
about Open Source and
Free Software. Please do not hesitate to email the developers of a particular
application that you
use frequently or to Linus or whomever else you deem important. If you happen
to have money sitting
around that you don't know what to do with, you could make a donation to a Free
Software project.

I am not talking about taking money from any of your other charities. If you do
contribute to a
charity, good for you but if you don't, please consider doing it for FOSS. Your
donation combined
with others could amount to some serious development funds. It's all a part of
the community we
know and love. Consider this the next time you fire up Apache or Firefox or any
of the Myriad of
apps that you use for free.

Season's Greetings to the Executive and the members. Have a safe and pleasant
holiday season.

Regards,

Jarrod Major
