I've consistently had problems with the OpenGL Screen savers I don't think it 
is isolated to just your laptop issue but I can tell you that certain OpenGL 
screen savers have hung my desktop system. I pick one of the non-openGL 
selections only for when I lock my desktop. I don't normally run with a 
screensaver on.

And in anticipation to those that may ask, I have the nVidia drivers installed 
and 3D acceleration is turned on.

Not sure if this helps but felt it worth mentioning.
