This CNet story is more about SQL Server than Windows, but the
principle applies: Companies bought software assurance for a three
year term, but in three years, Microsoft didn't release new versions
of the software that the customers bought assurance for, so they
essentially gave Microsoft money for nothing (no news on the chicks
for free).
