what does your /etc/network/interfaces have?
Instead of running dhclient manually on your interface, you should be
able to do "ifup eth0: which will happen on boot as long as this file
has an entry like this:
# This is a list of hotpluggable network interfaces.
# They will be activated automatically by the hotplug subsystem.
mapping hotplug
script grep
map eth1
# The primary network interface
iface eth1 inet dhcp
If it says the interface is already configured, do "ifdown eth0"
You could also do something like the following if hotplug is broken:
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
If during the course of using your workstation you lose the loopback,
"ifup lo" should bring it back up.
On my current workstation eth1 is the main NIC as eth0 does not work
properly under linux (built in intel 1000, some weird revision, knoppix
does not work either, but a $15 Netgear GigE NIC works perfectly).
