Maybe you could demonstrate Linuxs' superiority to Windows in all those respects. Such as
- Embedded development (Linux target and host)
All development tools are installed by default and its very easy to make things whereas it is not on Windows
- Viewing and serving webpages
Mozilla Firefox included in 99% of distros. Much more secure then Internet Explorer. Also Konqueror is built right in and is blazing fast.
- (web) Email and IM
One word... "Gaim"
- Listening to streaming music
Again, it's all built in. All the apps to do this are preinstalled and it just works!
- Playing DVDs
You could touch on the fact that you don't need to purchase DVD viewing software like you do for Windows. Although you may have to download libdvdcss2. Also, I think xMMs allows you to skip areas of the disk that are locked. Like, commercials, FBI warnings. Stuff like that.
- Reading Usenet
Hmm. How can Linux do it better than Windows... not sure.
- Number crunching (OO.o Calc, Matlab, etc.)
What do you have built into Windows for number crunching... calc.exe ? Spare me! OpenOffice to the rescue!
That's just my $0.02-- meh. Whatta I know :(
